Taylor Swift broke the internet on Aug. 28.

OK, not really.

But her website crashed as fans looked for more information when Swift announced that “Midnights,” her 10th album, will be released on Oct. 21. There was a countdown posted, and as fans refreshed, it crashed.

“I saw people guessing it was coming out on TikTok, but she’s always being cryptic, so I didn’t really believe it,” senior Liv Heseltine said.

Junior Abby Kuhn was just as excited.

“I immediately texted my best friends to let them know because I needed someone to freak out with,” Kuhn said.

These reactions were shared with multiple Swift fans, or Swifties, around the world.

She has been focusing on rerecording her previous albums that are owned by her old management team and label, so few considered a new album overall.

Since the “Midnight” announcement, fans have been creating and circulating theories, whether it’s “Lover’s” sister album, the unreleased album in between “1989” and “Reputation,” or a brand-new album overall.

“(We) theorized about what might be on the album, like what the songs might sound like or be written about,” Kuhn said.

There’s even some theories about who she is collaborating with on the album.

Students had their own theories.

“I saw a theory about her collaborating with the 1975 on TikTok,” Kuhn said. “I really want this album to have an indie pop/rock sound and I think that (the 1975) sound with her lyrics would be amazing.”

Heseltine added: “I think she’s going to explore a new genre, probably rock, cause it’s pretty on brand for her to try something new, like she did with folklore and evermore. I always love when she collaborates with Bon Iver and I would love to see more of her and Phoebe Bridgers.”
