In the first two weeks of the 2016 season, the Derby Panthers football team is scheduled to play two teams it hasn’t played in the last five years.

The Panthers opened the season at home against Eisenhower on Sept. 2. Derby ran threw their first test of the season with a 55-20 win.

On Friday, Derby will play host Goddard (1-0).

Derby’s run game was a key part of its win against Eisenhower. Senior Dan Dawdy and junior Brody Kooser combined for 162 rushing yards and four touchdowns, while sophomore Jackson Syring added 32 rushing yards and a touchdown.

Derby will honor all branches of the military on Friday with the annual military night. The evening will feature alternate camouflage uniforms and a special appearance by the VFW.

Goddard won its first game at home in a double-overtime thriller against Olathe Northwest. Derby is still ranked No. 1 in 6A by The Wichita Eagle and the Topeka Capital Journal. Goddard looks to make a jump by taking down the kings of 6A.
