Winter color guard auditions open to all

Thursday’s winter guard auditions were open to anyone interested, even if they did not participate in color guard during the fall. On Tuesday, those auditioning were taught the routine for the audition.

“The winter season also allows other students who were involved with other sports during fall to get a glimpse at what we do,” junior Dani Conway said.

Junior Emma Credille added: “Anybody can try out and we’ll teach you anything you will need to know for the audition routine. A lot of the things we do in winter guard is bodywork and body extension.”

Credille has been in both color guard and winter guard since freshman year.

“The only difference is we don’t necessarily have set spots like with drill and stuff (in color guard), and we don’t have a band playing. We just have to use a recording and we have to put more into it because everyone’s kind of watching,” Credille said.

Junior Kathryn Schartz added: “It takes a lot of dedication and handwork. It also takes teamwork. Not only you are performing, your whole team is too. Winter guard is like a whole big family and it’s amazing to spin with everyone.”
