Journalism student of the day: Haley Smith

When senior Haley Smith was a sophomore, she stepped in to fill the role of the yearbook business manager. There was a gap in what needed to be done in class, so she took over and excelled.

Smith has been doing just that ever since.

Smith, the content editor, understands every aspect of the yearbook and focuses in on the minutiae of producing a 264-page book. She played a critical role in planning the yearbook, including most of the stories.

She’s got a lot going on — she’s president of the National Honor Society, for instance. But she doesn’t neglect her duties in K-11.

Smith was one of six students chosen to cover the NCAA Tournament at Intrust Bank Arena. She was confident and worked fast. Just like she is in yearbook.

If she’s spending money, it’s likely on movies. If she’s rocking out in the car to a song, it’s going to be Dead and Gone by Justin Timberlake. She loves to bake — and watch soccer and football.

She has a penchant for talking with a British accent with Maddy Welch, too.

As for her favorite yearbook teammate, it’s Kendal Meyer.

“She never fails to get her work done on time and constantly tries new things,” Smith wrote.
