Journalism student of the day: Jillian Wedman

From the moment that sophomore Jillian Wedman entered journalism as a freshman, she made an impact.

The impact has been felt with her mere presence. She has a delightful personality, is usually upbeat and is quick to turn a positive spin on something.

She knows how to have fun in class but still work hard. Wedman loves throwback pop songs but can also be heard singing anything from The Greatest Showman.

When it comes to journalism, her impact has been felt just as much. She is extremely versatile — she can write, design, edit and take photos.

Her passion is journalism.

“I find myself thinking all the time — ‘wow! That would make an awesome story.’ So since I subconsciously think about journalism, it must be my passion,” Wedman wrote.

As for what people don’t realize about Derby High journalism, she wrote: “I feel like people don’t realize just how important we are to the high school. I mean, without yearbook, there wouldn’t be an awesome way to recreate history.

“We put so much work into newspaper as well — as in, we create the whole thing from scratch! Our ideas and our work.”
