Homecoming parade a delight for all ages

All ages — from little kids to senior citizens — lined the streets of Derby for the annual homecoming parade on Thursday.

Each high school float represented an example of the theme “Crazy Night Out.” Many students worked all day to get the floats ready for the event. Some started as early as 6:30 a.m. to make sure everything was done and ready.

“I thought it was fun that we all got to hang out for the day and show off school spirit,” Nicole McKee said.

Each of the homecoming candidates rode in the back of a car waving and smiling to everyone who came to watch.

“Tonight was definitely what I expected, plus a lot more smiling. It was really fun watching all the little girls light up when they saw me because they thought I was a princess,” said Harli Lowmaster, a queen candidate.

By the end of the night, 33 floats had passed through the streets sharing Derby Pride with the rest of the community.
