Kuipers’ victory donuts a hit in class

As football season rolls around, Derby teacher Tammy Kuipers might be looking at buying 17 dozen donuts a week. As a former alum of Ohio State, Kuipers shares her pride for the Buckeyes by buying donuts for all of her students every time they win.

“The year I started (teaching,) Ohio State and Michigan were ranked No. 1 and 2 in the nation. My students bet me Michigan would beat Ohio (State),” Kuipers said. “The bet was if Michigan won, I had to wear Michigan stuff, and if Ohio State won, I would bring donuts for the class.”

Little did Kuipers know that bet would continue 12 years later.

“Donuts are good and I like eating them, so I am always happy when she brings them,” Samuel Longoria said.

Kuipers spends about $110 on her “victory” donuts weekly and is not planning to stop anytime soon.
