At about 9:45 a.m. Thursday, principal Tim Hamblin made an intercom announcement about a student with possession of a weapon. The student was secured by the SRO.

“The tip was given to administration about a student possibly in possession of a weapon. This student was immediately secured and the unloaded gun was found by the school SRO without incident,” Hamblin wrote in an email to all parents and staff.

Hamblin said on the announcement that there was never an actual threat, so it was not necessary for a lockdown.

“We take all threats seriously. If you hear something or see something, please let law enforcement and administration know immediately,” Hamblin wrote in the email.

Master Patrol Officer Matt Liston viewed Thursday’s incident as a learning experience.

“I want them to learn from the situation, so when they see or hear something that they tell somebody that can respond and take care of it,” Liston said.

“So when they hear about somebody having a weapon or having something they aren’t supposed to have at school, it should be one of those reminders that they need to be telling somebody what it is that they are seeing.”
