The girls golf team at Derby High qualified as a whole team, taking third at regionals on Oct. 8

The Class 6A golf meet is Monday in Salina.

“I think that we have done a great job,” sophomore Macy Truitt said. “We have so much young talent and every one of us is hoping to get better, and I think we will just keep getting better as our team develops. I am very excited that we made it to state.
“Just qualifying for state is such an exciting thing and gives you a little bit more confidence in your game.”

Senior Emma Johnson finished second in regionals.

“This year and last year differ because Emma and I are the only people from last year’s team,” Truitt said. “Emma has done a great job of stepping into the leader role.

“Everyone is excited to go to Salina. Lots of practice, we practice every day. This game is much harder mentally to prepare for than playing the game, but we prepare by encouraging each other and trying to have fun.”
