Youth Job Connection helps teens build basic job skills

What: Youth Job Connection is an eight-week program that teaches young people basic skills that relate to applying and having a job. These topics include communication, teamwork, enthusiasm, networking, problem-solving and critical thinking. Students are also guided through the process of building a resume, filling out applications and interviewing.

Who: The program is for ages 15-18. Participants must apply as space is limited. Registration opens online Nov. 5 at www.derbyrec.com. Applying by phone and in person becomes available Nov. 12. The fee is $30.00.

When: The program runs from Jan. 10 through Feb. 28. Each session is from 6- 8 p.m. on Thursdays.

Where: Oaklawn Activity Center

Why: The Youth Job Connections program will help you understand responsibility, organization, time management and establish good work habits, gain experience and learn financial stability. Graduates of the program are eligible to interview for various spring and summer jobs at the Derby Recreation Center.
