Boys soccer head into 6A quarterfinals tonight

The biggest game of the season for the Derby Panthers boys soccer team is tonight at Hummer Park.

After a 14-4 season and a 9-1 start, the Panthers face one of the most dominant teams in the state.

Washburn Rural, 16-1-1, always finds a way to be consistently good every year.

But don’t count out the Panthers just yet. They are coming off a 1-0 win over Liberal, while the score doesn’t reflect it, was a dominating performance.

The Panthers seemed to have gotten their swagger back after stumbling against Eisenhower and Salina Central.

All year the Panthers managed to stay solid and fast all game. In the regional final on Thursday, they did just that.

Thanks to a 54th minute goal by Saul Munoz, the Panthers were able to keep their state championship mindset going.
