Eight Derby students place in HOSA competition

Eight students placed at the state HOSA-Future Health Professionals competition.

Senior Julia Carter, junior Gavin Sanborn and senior Tyler Baldridge placed third in creative creative problem solving.

Sophomore Nicole Henderson placed second in extemporaneous writing. Senior Niamh Dixon placed second and senior Jacqueline Baker placing third in medical law and ethics.

Junior Bridget Greb placed third in medical math, while Nicole Henderson placed third in veterinary science. Freshman Vy Nguyen finished first in researched persuasive writing and speaking.

“(Teacher Karla) Long and I are extremely proud of all the students that competed most of their preparation for these events are done on their own time outside of school,” teacher Kathleen O’ Brien wrote in an email.

Henderson and Nguyen have the chance to compete at the International Leadership Conference in Orlando, Florida in June.
