With a season-opening win against Arkansas City on Dec. 10, the girls basketball team has new young talent and talented veterans.

Tonight the Panthers, who finished third in Class 6A in March, face off against the visiting McPherson Bullpups at 7.

It’s a tough game — McPherson is 2-0.

“I’m really excited. It’s going to be a really good challenge for us considering we’re a brand new team this year,” junior Jaidyn Schomp said.

With two strong freshman, Addyson Brown and Maryn Archer, helping lead the team with the returning players such as Schomp, Sydney Nilles, Katelyn Kennedy and Heather Mills, the team plans to contend for a 6A title..

“Maryn and Addy are doing really great,” Schomp said. “They’re kind of like their own little duo, and they’re just awesome when they are in there together. Maryn can handle the ball really well and Addy can get in there and just bury someone and score.”

On Saturday the Panthers play Kapaun Mount Carmel at 3:15 p.m. at Koch Arena. The boys team plays McPherson tonight around 7:30 p.m. and will play Wichita East at 5 at Koch Arena on Saturday.
