TikTok: Where time ceases to exist

Jordan Parcell

Ever since it was launched on the international market in September 2017, TikTok has been a favorite pastime (or rather waste of time) of many.  It’s as though the app creates a black hole in which time ceases to exist, and before you know it, you’ve spent hours scrolling.

“Hours upon hours are spent on TikTok,” said junior Malia Hernandez, who downloaded the app because of friends and celebrities who had accounts.

TikTok is a platform that is somewhat reminiscent of Vine and Music.ly, where you can create, share and watch. There’s a “For You” page that recommends videos based on your watching and liking habits. You can follow your favorite creators and go to the “Following” tab to only see their content.

My favorite creator right now is Alexis Patera (@moonlitdzxe) because she is doing a series where she makes a TikTok for every aesthetic she can think of and it’s so good. She’s on ‘E’ right now.

Some students also make their own TikToks.

“I make TikToks, but just for fun. The ones I make the most are the put a finger down ones,” Hernandez said.

There are different songs and other audios to choose from when making a TikTok. Every song or other audio has a specific dance or other trend that goes along with it.
