Hollyball … Back in Action

Principal Tim Hamblin called a Derby High family meeting on the morning of Nov. 26, to discuss Hollyball and whether or not it would be held on Dec. 1, 2012. The meeting began with a discussion of why the administration decided to possibly cancel the winter dance. The main reason being that the students were not representing the school in the most respectful and positive ways.

“Leaders cannot always worry about being popular,” Hamblin said. “often times the decision made is not always the most popular with people.”

Mid way through the meeting Hamblin told students that all five points that caused Hollyball to be canceled, had improved. He also added that the student body came together and cleaned the campus without being asked. Hamblin then mentioned that students raised over $600 to help pay for the damages to the Hutch visitor bleachers.

“Hold your self and peers accountable, make this school the best school in Kansas” Hamblin said.

Hamblin announced that Hollyball will be held at the same time and tickets will be for sale in both the main office and the finance office. Students that had already prepared for the dance took a breath of relief when they heard that Hollyball is back.
