Mantherettes

It’s that time again; chilly weather, lots of days off from school and basketball. With basketball comes the Pantherettes performance with the Mantherettes. Mantherettes have been a tradition of Derby High for as long as students can remember. Every basketball season a few senior boys get to dance with the Pantherettes. On Nov. 30, during the first home basketball came the Mantherettes performed at half time. Their true first performance of the year was earlier that day at a school pep rally for winter sports. The students got hyped up and loved seeing what the dancers had in store for those senior boys and what popular music they would dance to.

“Mantherettes is my favorite dance of the whole dance season. It’s so fun to dance with the guys and be goofy,” senior Sarah Decristoforo said.

The Mantherettes worked the entire month of November learning the dance moves. The first basketball game of the season happened to be a home game. On Friday at half time, the Mantherettes performed and showed off what they had been hard at work for the past month.

“I was happy to be apart of Mantherettes. I was nervous to dance, especially in front of the school but it was fun,” senior Miguel Flores said.

Mantherettes was a beloved tradition of Derby High and will continue for many years to come.
