The DHS Dems is a club dedicated to change. The club started around three years ago and has already made waves.

One of their biggest events, a voter registration drive in 2018 gained notice from other organizations.

“We did a voter registration drive here at the school and the League of Women voters helped us,” teacher Emily Williams said

DHS Democrats was founded on the idea of progress. The club has been active in the community since its formation. Recently the club has been selling lollipops at $1 each to raise funds for the Red Cross in support of the Afghan refugees.

“Right now we are trying to do a lollipop fundraiser to send to Afghanistan,” junior Andrew Miller said.

The club has made over $100 only selling lollipops. The lollipop fundraiser was started by the club in an effort to support Afghan refugees.  Those who chose to join the club want more for the community

“Seeing how motivated young people are to make a difference in their community to get involved, you know find an area that they are passionate about and really make change happen,” Williams said.

The club has also been thinking about starting a Derby community refrigerator. A community refrigerator is a fridge or pantry that is put in a neighborhood to help those who may not have enough money for groceries.

“We’re thinking about one (fundraiser) for a DHS community refrigerator,” Miller said.
