In a rivalry game, there’s no doubt that emotions play a role.

And Campus came out with a punch to Derby’s face Friday night when the Colts returned the opening kickoff 93 yards for a touchdown.

Derby shrugged it off, as the Panthers finished out the first half with two defensive touchdowns and 49 straight points, scoring on every possession en route to the 70-21 win. Junior running back Dylan Edwards took the first play of the second half 80 yards for a score.

Edwards finished with 177 rushing yards and three touchdowns.

Game after game Derby puts up a special display of offensive power.

Derek Hubbard added his own 80-yard touchdown, and quarterback Mercer Thatcher accounted for three touchdowns.

Hubbard had 106 rushing yards, while Thatcher completed 4 of 4 passes for 152 yards. Cayden Brown and Drake Thatcher each scored receiving touchdowns.

Derby’s defense did its thing, too.

Caden Riojas returned an interception for a touchdown, while Roman Boden ended the first half by picking up a Campus fumble and scoring.
