The Help of a Friend

Panther Personalities is a section where the publications staff interviews individuals, getting to know the school a little better.

The scariest moments in Nicky Inthirath’s life have been the three separate times where he has cracked his head open.

The first time was when he was just a baby, when his uncle got his head just a little too close to a fan. The next time, while playing with his cousins, and a rock was thrown at his head. The third was when Nicky accidentally fell off of a bunk bed, splitting his head open.

“When you’re a little kid, you think you are invincible and nothing too bad will ever happen to you,” Inthirath said. “But now that I’ve had really emotional things happen to me, like losing family, it’s really opened up my eyes to what the world is really like.”

He lives his life carefully, by picking his friends up when they get hurt and warning them to be more cautious in certain situations. He plans for the what-could-happen in the back of his mind, thinking about what he would do if the situation were to arise.

“My best friend Brad is the complete opposite of me,” Inthirath said. “Like on the last day of school he made me go into the woods, and I got my new Vans all dirty, and I got a stick in my foot. But he’s a big part of my life.”

The first time Nicky rode in a police car was when his best friend called the cops for him. Though it may seem like the worst thing a friend could do, Brad actually saved Nicky’s life that day.

“A while back I was really depressed, and I wasn’t doing too good, and he called the cops to my house for me,” Inthirath said. “He’s really helped me through a lot.”

Some of the scariest moments in Nicky’s childhood were the times when he got hurt, but with the help of his family, he got better. Now, in the midst of adolescence, it is his best friend who has been by his side since sixth grade, who helped him through his challenges.
