Girls basketball update

The Panthers girls basketball team are 20-1 and the AVCTL I champs, but tonight they’re looking to qualify for the Class 6A tournament.

They play host to Wichita East (13-8) and are riding a nine-game winning streak.

“Everyone wants to get to the championship. But I know it’s my last game here at Derby, so I think that’s a little upsetting to me and I think I might be a little emotional after the game. But I think it’s more excitement than anything,” senior guard Tatum Boettjer said.

While the Panthers are the favorite, the goal is to be focused.

“It’s always exciting. It’s the game that gets you into state, so there’s a little extra motivation, little extra adrenaline for everybody, coaches, players alike… I like our chances tonight, but (we) got to play every game, every possession,” coach Dan Harrison said.
