Aerostructure students seek to build an entire airplane
March 22, 2022
Teacher Tammy Kuipers dreams big for her students taking her aerostructure class.
Kuipers and her students recently finished making a rudder. The rudder is what helps control a plane’s direction when flying. Airbrush teacher Roger Scovell also had students from his classes help design the finished part of the plane.
Her goal is to have her students build a full plane in the long run.
“If we had the funding and the facilities, we could probably finish it in a year,” Kuipers said.
“My guess is that the (full) project will take maybe two years.”
Kuipers is hoping to do this all again assuming their first plane does well.
“I don’t want it to ever be a one time deal,” Kuipers said.
