A man on the move

One of the last things you’d imagine seeing while wandering down the rows and rows of food booths at the Kansas State Fair: a man with a booming, Broadway-worthy voice in a sparkling golden suit playing on a constantly moving piano.
That man is Blake Guyre, a performer who has been with the Strolling Piano company for about six years.
“We started at Disney Springs over in Orlando,” he said. “In about the last four years we’ve been doing fairs and festivals all over the country.”
At the state fair on Tuesday, he played a variety of different songs, such as “Be Our Guest,” “Great Balls of Fire” and “Rich Girl.”
“I do anything between Metallica and Disney, but my favorites to play are probably Billy Joel – Elton John-style – or I love Michael Bublé,” he said.
Singing at the top of his lungs and playing his heart out while spinning in circles up and down the fair, Guyre always knows how to wow fair visitors.
“I absolutely adore him, he’s just such a magnet,” visitor Haley Maldonado said. “When you hear piano out of nowhere, it kind of catches your attention…. he’s so talented.”
You never know where Guyre will show up next, seemingly disappearing and reappearing on his piano in seconds. Much to the delight of fair-goers, Guyre has three shows a day: at 2, 4 and 6 p.m.
“He has so much energy and so much courage to go out and do this. Everybody’s just moving around and he just keeps going no matter how much he makes in (tips), you know?” vendor Carol Myers said. “He just keeps on going.”
Guyre’s liveliness is often reflected back at him in the crowd during his shows, which further motivates him to make people smile.
“Whenever I get reactions from the crowd, it just adds so much energy to the show,” Guyre said. “I mean, whenever I can tell the crowd’s enjoying it and interacting and having a great time, it completely changes the dynamic of the show, and I’m giving 100% the entire time I play. I’m having the best time of my life.”
