Freshman’s first day jitters ends with peace, pizza
August 18, 2017
On my last day of middle school I knew that high school was inevitable.
On Tuesday, the night before freshmen orientation, I stressed and nearly made my mother’s head explode with outfits for every day of the week. When the day finally came I was ready.
I got a ride from some friends because I didn’t want anything to get messed up during the seven-minute walk from my house to the school. I entered the school and found that high school is not much different from middle school, until I saw a vending machine.
Sadly, I didn’t have enough time to buy anything, but it was already decided that the Diet Pepsi was going to be mine.
As I went through the tour of the school with the Panther Crew assigned to us, I felt as if I had nothing to worry about. Then the point where rules came up, and one of the upperclassmen said something about sports.
I had totally forgotten about volleyball tryouts happening later in the day. My heart began to race and I felt like someone had dropped a weight on me. I had to continue on with the day but the thought never left my mind.
As the day went by, I became more and more anxious. Even during the exciting pep assembly I could hear my heartbeat over the loud drums. My friends were talking but I couldn’t hear them. In five minutes or so I would start my last day of tryouts. In three hours I would know whether or not I made the volleyball team. I would find out if all of my hard work over the summer was worth it or if I should’ve stayed home.
After finding out that I made the volleyball team, I was able to go home and eat pizza after my long day.
