Page 2: Jennings builds connections

If holding positive relationships with students was a super power, it would be custodian Joey Jenning’s.

Students enjoy talking to him and being around him.

“Joey is alway really nice,” sophomore Churro King said. “It is nice to have an adult who is actually nice.”

Jennings has a knack at being able to connect with the students who often feel left out.

“I trust him a lot, and I always feel seen and heard when I talk to him,” sophomore Grace Summers said.

Jennings, who grew up a drama kid and big Dungeons and Dragons player, understands students who struggle to connect with adults in the school.

When he started as a custodian, he did it with a let’s-see-how-this-goes attitude. Turns out, it has been good for him and DHS students.

“I love when kids I have never met say ‘hello’ to me in the hallways. I don’t know them but I can’t wait to see them the next day,” Jennings said.
