Due to extreme heat, Derby Night Lights was canceled.
“It is always a bad thing but it’s the state rules,” football coach Brandon Clark said. “We’re practicing in the morning Thursday. They already said nothing till 10 p.m., so there is no way we can do it and it’s out of our hands.”
Many students involved in the tradition were disappointed.
Yet students understood the decision.
“It’s disappointing, but it’s out of our control and I understand that safety is the No. 1 priority,” senior Danielle Turner said. “Although it’s canceled, I understand the reason why.
“… I think performances before we actually start in real football games and composition later on are important because it helps the freshman to understand what this is all about what it means to be a part of Derby and Derby band.”
