Thursday night, you could have seen the biggest, brightest moon all year.
The Super Blue Moon.
The term “Blue Moon” doesn’t mean the moon is blue.
There have been two full moons in a calendar month, naming the moon “Blue Moon.”
But Thursday night’s moon was particular.
It won’t reappear until 2037.
A supermoon occurs when the full moon coincides with the moon’s closest approach to Earth in its orbit, which makes the moon appear bigger and brighter.
There are four supermoons in 2023.
Two happened in July and Thursday night. The next supermoon will be September 29.
