On the road at Maize, the Panthers were able to beat the Eagles 35-21 in a true team win.
In his second start – this time on the road – quarterback Easton Splane and the offense were slow to start the game. While they took a 7-0 lead, the Panthers had a pair of interceptions, and Maize scored the game’s next 21 points.
“Our defense really stepped up,” said Splane, who threw three interceptions.
The defense helped give the Panthers more opportunities to slowly take control of the game
At halftime the game was tied at 21-all in the coldest game of the year, and that’s when everything changed.
“We felt good coming out at halftime,” sophomore Houston Bowlin said.
After half Maize didn’t score whilst the Panther offense drove down the field and took a lot of time off the clock.
Splane threw for 185 yards, completing 12 of 22 passes for three touchdowns, and also ran for 124 yards and two touchdowns.
Senior running back Derek Hubbard had 17 carries for 120 yards.
After holding a 28-21 lead for most of the second half, junior Da’Saahn Brame put the game out of reach with a 25-yard touchdown reception. He had two touchdown receptions and finished with five receptions, 115 yards.
“After that we just wanted the ball back,” sophomore Maxwell Robinson said.
After a couple of key stops the Panthers were able to drain out the clock.
