Senior quarterback Braxton Clark has led the Panthers to an undefeated record since returning from his kidney injury in September. Going into the state game this is what Clark had to say about the pressure of winning.
“I feel very confident and I know the team feels the same,” Clark said. Clark has been the leader of this team all season and the players have rallied for him especially in the past weeks.
In the Panthers last two games against Manhattan and Washburn Rural the panthers have had to come back late in the game. Kicker Grady Jesseph hit back to back game winning field goals but Clark has thrown for five touchdowns and added one on the ground.
“I have to give credit to my receivers, especially Colton Ruedy,” Clark said. Ruedy had three touchdowns in their previous win against Washburn Rural.
Going into the Class 6A State Championship game Clark has been spreading the ball around and making this offense dynamic. On Saturday there is expected to be eight inches of snow which could possibly change the game plan.
“We just have to hold onto the ball and make and don’t fumble,” Clark said. Clark and the Panthers are focusing on ball security and limiting turnovers to help force an edge of Gardner Edgerton.
Clark will lead this Panthers offense like he has all season even through the weather. Him and the team look to secure their first Class 6A State Championship in three years.
