The Panthers football team lost 22-19 to Gardner-Edgerton in a snowy Class 6A title game at Emporia State on Saturday.
The loss ending a string of two straight games that had been won in the final seconds on field goals, as well as the Panthers’ streak of 11 straight wins also ended.
The Panthers were able to bring it to a one-possession game behind senior running back Derek Hubbard’s four-yard rushing touchdown. After that the Panthers got the ball back late in the game but were unable to score.
The Panthers took a 13-0 lead early in the game on touchdowns by Da’Saahn Brame and Hubbard, flipping the script from previous weeks when they had to come from behind.
But Gardner-Edgerton scored 22 unanswered points.
