At 6-foot, the transfer from Nebraska can run the 2 and 3 well. On a team that only lost one player from last season — McDonald’s All-American Addy brown — sophomore Macayla Askew is a new face in the lineup.
Askew is a laid-back type of person but sadly for her opponents, the same is not true when she’s on the court.
Askew dropped a 25-point double-double with 11 rebounds in the season opener against Mcpherson in one of the toughest atmospheres around. Though the Panthers lost, it will be a night to remember for Askew.
“(I want to) win a title, why not right? Let’s get these seniors something,” Askew said.
Her unselfishness on and off the court helps her get along with her teammates, other friends and family.
“She’s a very caring person, she puts others before herself,” junior Maliyah Lansang said. “She’s an extremely sweet and supportive person, someone you can just count on.”
Askew is a big fan of music. She likes to listen to R&B and Hip-Hop in particular. She has a unique style that she puts on every day.
“My dad inspires me, he used to dress like I do right now. He was always a chill guy and why not have a chill vibe right,” she said.
Askew focuses hard on basketball but also cares deeply about her family.
“When I’m not playing basketball, in my free time I mostly just take care of my brothers,” Askew said. “I have three used to be four one passed recently.”
Askew plays for her brother. She knows that he is always with her and she wants to do well for him.
Going into the season with a positive attitude Askew looks to put a mark on her first year in Kansas.
