Sometimes, all a class needs is a brain break from time to time. Teacher Abby Belt delivers.
During seventh block on Feb 8, Belt’s class plays a competitive game in the commons.
“We use the bandanas to work on communication, collaboration, and critical thinking,” Teacher Abby Belt said. “It might seem like a stretch, but a team needs all to be effective in this activity.”
The tactics used help give students what they need to succeed.
“They work together to move from one place to the next, without touching the floor. If they touch the floor or a group member is left out by the end, they have to start over,” Belt said. “There is a certain amount of strategy employed to get to the target the fastest and with everyone involved.”
Teamwork can be hard for some, but little things like Belt’s game can push people out of their comfort zones.
“It presents natural leadership opportunities and breaks down some of the barriers we put up because we’re afraid to work with people,” Belt said.
