The Panthers girls basketball team has a legacy of success in the postseason, and this year was no different. For the ninth consecutive time, the Panthers are in the state tournament.
And with their one-point win over Shawnee Mission Northwest on Wednesday, they advanced to the final four.
“The win was absolutely amazing,” senior Kyler Demel said. “I’m so proud of our team and how we overcame adversity and worked together and proved a lot of people wrong that night.”
The Panthers are back in action tonight at 6 p.m. against Washburn Rural, a team known to end Derby seasons in the past.
“I am so excited about today’s game,” Demel said. “I’m ready to break the cycle of us losing to Washburn.”
The game is at Koch Arena on Wichita State’s campus. Tickets are $10 with cash and $11 with card. The winner will advance to the state championship game at 4 p.m. Saturday. The loser will play for third at noon.
