The tradition of Outrageous Outfit Outing, OOO, started three years ago and is hosted at Gambino’s Pizza as a way to create team bonding amongst the girls swim team.
Since the team has split practices, it can be hard to interact with each other on the team.
“Because of this, we typically try to partner up the girls with someone they wouldn’t normally interact with on a daily basis and encourage them to go to Goodwill together and pick out the funniest and most outrageous outfits possible within a reasonable budget,” coach Danny Smith said.
This outing is clearly very important for the girls, considering that they don’t always have much time together with split practices.
First time swimmer, sophomore Lilly Macormac, shares her input on her first ever Outrageous Outing.
“My partner was (junior) Leah Rogers, she picked me up after practice and we went to goodwill,” Macormac said.
Smith believes that nothing could bring a team together more than looking outrageous in public.
“Some of the girls have even gone as far as wearing their outrageous outfits at school,” “We also try not to limit the event to just the girls as we often encourage the team managers as well as the coaches to participate,” Smith said.
Sophomore Michaela Blankenship shares her input as this being her third ever Outrageous Outing.
“Everyone gets really excited to participate and see what everyone will end up wearing,” Blankenship said.
The swimmers believe that dressing crazily in a group, lessons the embarrassment.
“It’s usually really funny because we are wearing embarrassing outfits in public, but we are doing it as a team so it makes it better,” Blankenship said.
This event allows the team to sit back, relax, and enjoy some Gambino’s pizza.
“It gives us a break from the constant grind of swim and enables the team to all be together and have fun for a little bit, rather than having a workout,” Blankenship said.
