The DJ wasn’t the only one with flashing lights at prom.
The fire alarm went off around 20 minutes into the dance, and chaperones and teachers rushed everyone out of the building.
For 10-15 minutes, everyone conversed outside, some calling on their phones, some posing with the firetruck, and there were even groups that left.
“I was like ‘Oh, we actually have to leave, this is serious’,” junior Aleah Jones said.
Most conversations consisted of questions surrounding the confusing incident.
“We were inside for like five minutes and then immediately got booted,” senior Will Beaugelsdyk said.
Some feel as if they wasted their money.
“I feel like I got robbed, I got finessed,” guest senior Glenn Cline said.
Others still had fun despite the frustrating situation.
“If the firefighters had their sirens on we could use that as music,” junior Destinee Cooper said.
The students and staff were let back inside while firefighters were exiting the building, people cheering as they walked past.
“Nobody pulled it, nobody knows, they think the fog machine may have triggered it,” security guard Kelley Baney said.
When everyone was back inside the building, the DJ announced that the dance was extended until 10:30.
Still, most people left around 10:00.
The cause of the alarm remains unknown, but most were able to have a laugh at the situation.
“Dude, prom at Derby is kinda crazy, not gonna lie,” Cooper said.
“I just wanna hop in the fire truck, that’s it,”
