On May 1 the highly anticipated senior class vs. staff basketball game took place. With the seniors eager to prove themselves and the staff ready to showcase their skills, it was bound to be an exciting match.
“At my age, you’re either ready or you’re not, trying not to get myself hurt was hard. I’m surprised I didn’t tear my ACL or a hammy,” Assistant Principal Michael Moseley said.
From tip-off, it was clear that both teams were in it to win it. The seniors displayed their agility and teamwork.
“It was fun to meet back up with some people from my class that I haven’t talked to since freshman year, and I had fun,” senior Joshua Packard said.
While the staff team, led by their experienced players, showed their powers on the court by demonstrating their years of basketball knowledge.
“I played at DMS and DHS growing up, coaching from 2018 – 2023 at DNMS and now I coach at DHS also as a history teacher,” girls basketball coach Ashton Petrisor said.
As the game progressed, the intensity escalated. The seniors fought valiantly, refusing to back down. They showcased their determination and resilience, seeing what the staff team is really made of.
“I knew if I didn’t play well my students would let me know the next day,” Petrisor said.
In the end, it was the staff team who emerged victorious, taking the win with a score of 55-52.
“Nobody likes losing so I was happy that we won, especially since it was my first time playing. I felt a little nervous at first but after a while I chilled out and I was good to go,” Petrisor said.
This game was not just about the final score, but about the camaraderie and friendly competition between the seniors and staff.
“Overall, it was just fun to play, have a good time with the students, and raise money for STUCO,” Mosley said.
It highlighted the bond between students and educators, showcasing the unity and spirit within the school community.
“I think that the staff got away with everything, they were fouling but I think we played well,” senior Beckham Kantukule said.
