The clothes that you gave away could be a star piece in someone else’s outfit.
“Being able to go shopping for clothes and finding new stuff to keep my outfits different and me being able to have many different styles to keep my mind open to outfits I can mix together,” senior Jacob Inthirath said.
Thrifting is, without a doubt, one of the cheapest ways to shop for clothes.
“You get to find amazing finds for good deals, some name brand clothes or shoes that you could get instead of full price for half the price or even less,” sophomore Hunter Smith said.
Although most people begin thrifting because of low prices, they can discover it’s also a fun way to find new clothes.
“I started thrifting maybe a year or two ago. I did because it was a cheaper way to shop and stuff, and I find that in some places you can find cuter outfits, and it’s just more fun,” junior Violet Barger said.
Some people enjoy even thrifting alone, finding it therapeutic.
“It just depends but I like doing by myself because my friends don’t have time when I want to go, and I mainly just like going by myself,” Inthirath said.
Reasons like these, have led to thrifting to become a favorite shopping method.
“I think it’s a lot better than buying retail,” sophomore Gideon Phommachanh said.
When someone mentions “rare finds,” it’s the well-known name brands you wouldn’t expect to see, considering they always get snatched up.
“Usually the thrift places here are okay but I prefer going to spots by (Kansas City) where there is a lot more options and clothes,” senior Ty Phrommathed said
For Inthirath, thrifting is part of his lifestyle.
“I mainly do it to help my confidence because if I don’t have a good fit I don’t feel confident in myself, thrifting is a big part of how I represent myself,” Inthirath said.
Thrifting has helped people not only define their fashion sense, but also themselves.
“You can be more yourself and you can learn what your style is,” Barger said.
What you wear tends to reflect your personality and interests.
“I think that outfits can definitely help you express yourself and who you are, what you’re into, and I think thrifting is a good way to help you find your style,” Phommachanh said.
