Since I was little I’ve wanted to be a stay-at-home mom, homemaker and homesteader.
I want to take care of my children when they are young rather than send them to daycare because I feel like you’ll miss a key moment of their lives.
In today’s society, I feel that it’s seen as lazy to stay home. Despite that, I think being in that role is a job in itself.
As a stay-at-home mom, you have to maintain the house, clean, keep things in order, and take care of the children — which is a lot with planning activities, socializing them and educating them. You also have to cook for the family as well.
Additionally, I value clean food for my children because of my desire to homestead. Homesteading is a lifestyle that is being self-sufficient, like growing food and relying less on others to live.
Out of those, food is the most important. I would like to grow fruits, vegetables, bake bread, possibly have chickens and goats too.
If I’m doing all this it’s reasonable for me to expect my husband to be the main breadwinner. He can work, provide for the family, fix things around the house and take out the trash because it’s gross.
Some people might feel this is unreasonable, but I think with the right mindset it can be achieved. I believe it comes down to three things to achieve this.
The first is being priorities, lots of women in today’s society prioritize their jobs over taking care of the home. The next one is religion, if you aren’t religious or have some guiding faith you may have nothing to follow for your duties or leading desire.
Finally, I think the most common reason is money. In the economy we live in, money is hard, so the loss of income from a woman working a job might seem like a lot but there are benefits.
The biggest is child care. According to Kiplinger.com, a finance information website, on average it costs over $10,000 per child to send to daycare. If you’re not sending your child to daycare that’s a large chunk of money you’ll be saving.
Growing foods will save money on groceries, and you can sell extras too.
Having a part-time job or side hustle is a great way to help out with money too. Growing up my mom was a stay-at-home mom and money wasn’t always easy but my parents made it work. My mom did craft shows as well as working a part-time job while I was at school.
So I believe it’s more than possible to be a stay-at-home mom and I can’t wait to be one.
