On May 14, just days before graduation, senior Emma Kimmel died.
Principal Gretchen Pontious emailed DHS students, staff and families on May 16 to inform them of her death, while also sharing mental health resources.
Kimmel had genuine compassion and the ability to lift others up through even the most challenging times.
“She was always there and ready to cheer you up and was always so fast to lift your spirits and make sure you’re okay even when she wasn’t,” senior Gracie Phillips said.
Kimmel was known for her enthusiasm and unwavering kindness.
“Her jokes, her laugh and her smile. She loved telling jokes, and she was always laughing. Her smile shines brighter than anything in this world,” Phillips said. “Even though some thought differently of her, she didn’t let it get to her, and she knew her worth.”
