After going 22-4 the softball team was awarded the one-seed for regionals and after blowing two teams out the team earned the one-seed at state.
Although the team had many underclassmen the seniors were a big factor in leading the team to a one-seed.
“I watched Addy Canfield all year since she was the best pitcher and we grew close together and even though I’m a freshman it made me feel older,” Kelby Clingan said.
The team focused on having fun and building relationships rather than focusing only on winning games.
“Their main thing was having fun and being supportive,” junior Carsen Carpenter said. “It made things less uptight knowing they weren’t going to freak out if you did something wrong.”
Even though the team didn’t perform as highly as it had liked to at state, falling to Olathe South 8-6 in the first round, the girls want to stay friends with the seniors even after they leave.
“I’ve known these girls for so long, one being my sister. The only one I wasn’t very close with was Brooke and we got closer every day,” sophomore Karlie Demel said. “I want to watch them succeed in everything they do. I know all of them are going to play college sports except Brooke and she’s going to do amazing things as will all the others in their selected sports.”
