DHS students met at the school at 6 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday for meet you at the pole. It’s a nationwide event for students to show the love of God through them.
Derby Friends church students met at 7 p.m. at the same spot on the DHS campus as a change to the meaningful tradition.
Meeting up with fellow classmates for prayer is a fun time and can also be a little emotional for some.
Standing around the pole hand in hand gives a sense of calm and solidarity.
Junior Mckynzie Arrington thinks this event is very significant.
“I thought it was fun and meaningful being able to pray for everyone and specific things for the school,” Arrington said. “I prayed for everyone’s mental health and for the things they can get through all the things they may be struggling with and for the safety of the school”
This event is a reminder for students to love and serve those they pray for. It gives them a chance to express themselves and hopes for others.
