Derby superintendent Heather Bohaty was named one of three finalist of the 2025 Kansas superintendent of the year.

The finalists are chosen through an application process, consisting of nominations by peers, completing four open-ended questions and submitting a video introducing and explaining their beliefs about education, and professional accomplishments.

Bohaty started as an assistant superintendent for USD 260 in 2009. She was named the superintendent in 2017.

The finalists will now be interviewed by former superintendents of the year to determine the 2025 superintendent of the year, and will be announced live on the USA-Kansas Facebook page on Oct. 7.
