Spring sports update (April 23)

Week 4 of spring sports was busy, with the weather getting closer to actually being spring-like.

*Softball lost its first two games of the year to Maize on April 17 — 5-1, 8-2.

But in Newton on Friday the girls dominated the Railers in both games, getting the sweep with 15-3, 22-1 wins.

*Baseball split against Maize on April 17. Freshman Coleson Syring hit a walkoff grand slam with two outs in the seventh inning of the first game in the 10-8 win. Maize won the second game 6-4.

The Panthers split on Friday against Newton, as well. Newton won the first game 5-1, while Derby won the second 7-2.

*Girls soccer must have been on cleaning duty this week.

The Panthers dominated both Hutchinson, 6-0 on April 17, and Campus 7-0 on Thursday.

Freshman Brianna Moore is still atop the scorers list with 22 goals.

*Girls swim went back-to-back with meets at Salina South on Wednesday and a Hutchinson invitational on Thursday.

The team placed third in Hutch with senior Megan Keil winning the 100-meter breaststroke.

*Track went down the road to Campus on Friday finishing third behind Campus and Bishop Carroll.

*Boys tennis went to Winfield on Friday for an invitational.

*Boys golf went to Salina South on Friday for an invitational.
