Surrounded by fields and trees, while hearing the whispers and screams around you can really give you the chills.
Field of Screams is a favorite Halloween attraction for those who love the scare.
After waiting in line chatting with other people, the night starts calm, a peaceful tractor ride out to the field. At this point, you only know something is coming.
Suddenly, there’s characters jumping out and running right behind you. It can be terrifying.
“I don’t get scared easily, but when I go there, I’m scared all the time,” junior Aidan McVicker said.
Creepy figures scaring you can truly bring people — joy like senior Olivia Prue.
“I love being scared. Any chance to attend a haunted house- I’m there,” Prue said. “I think I enjoy it because it brings some excitement and laughter.”
Snickering at those who get scared while trying to stay hidden in a group of people makes for a good time.
“Being scared is not fun – it’s absolutely terrible — but fun seeing other people scared,” sophomore Linnea Hanson said.
Not everyone enjoys fear.
“It’s an uneasy feeling, and people don’t like being uneasy or uncomfortable,” junior Ambrosio Aguayo said.
Even Spanish teacher Carrie Sharpe will not be seen anywhere near this scary place, but maybe a younger Sharpe would’ve enjoyed it.
“I don’t want to have nightmares,” Sharpe said. “Life is scary enough. Usually, we put a few things up to decorate, but in recent years, we minimize. As a child, I used to like going to them.”
Going in a group — scrunching together, pushing one another, not wanting to go first — is so much more fun than going alone.
“If we go in larger groups, it’s more likely for us to be by ourselves in the maze,” Prue said. “Not that other people are a bother- but it’s more enjoyable with people you know. I also enjoy going in bigger groups cause it gives you more of an opportunity to hide in the middle! And seeing all the different reactions in the group will quite literally send you to the floor laughing.”
Sophomore Brittyn Williams agreed.
“I am going with eight people,” Williams said. “Bigger groups are better, for sure.”
After finally making it out of all the fields and buildings you think you’re free from terror until another character jumps out at you on your way out.
Taking the tractor back to the parking lot brings a soothing feeling of truly being free.
