Victoria’s Secret popped out with a 2024 fashion show, the first one in six years.
I was excited to see a wide range of people and diversity walk.
In fact, Alex Cosani made history as the first transgender model to ever walk a VS stage. I really hope to see more companies follow this positive trend of inclusion.
Everything else was a disaster.
I do NOT blame any of the models for anything; this is a designer issue.
First of all, the wings. Now, I don’t care about who wears them or the “angel only” significance that some argue.
The wings were just ugly and they were poorly designed. Lila Moss was done dirty with hers; it just looked unfinished.
The fact is that the wings are heavy. The women looked uncomfortable in them as they walked –– they would’ve been given time to practice for the show. Had they been given the chance to get comfortable, all of them would have been able to shine with confidence.
Also, can we mention the stage? What happened to the sparkly, diamond-like stage? The glitter that used to kick up as they walked?
Doutzen Kroes got her heel stuck in the 24’ stage as she walked. The stage looked as if it was cardboard wrapped in wrapping paper, stapled together.
Now, the outfits. I think it was just okay. I mean, it wasn’t horrible, but it could’ve been better.
Hair is always a big complement to the outfits, so why is Adriana Lima walking out to her first show in six years in a slicked-back ponytail?
A. Slicked. Back. Ponytail.
Bring back the hyper-feminine show. Bring back the endless glitter and rhinestones. Bring back the big blowout hair. Bring back Victoria’s Secret.
Don’t get me wrong, I think VS should continue the range of diverse bodies, skin tones, and gender, but they can incorporate that into the classic runway show. I could see this giving more confidence to young women, to see girls who look like them in a fashion show.
In the end, it was an average show. It just wasn’t what many were anticipating for the comeback.
