If you’ve talked to freshman Maya Painchaud, or even looked at her Instagram story, you’d know about her obsession with Formula 1 racing.

However, what many people don’t know is that Painchaud got into it because of her stepdad. 

“We both found teams to follow, (and there’s competition) because we root for rival teams. (When our team wins,) we celebrate,” Painchaud said.

While F1 racing brought a new hobby to Painchaud, it also brought something else. It brought a closer relationship with her stepdad.

“It’s a thing we have in common because it’s something we both like. (We got closer) because we always hang out when we watch it and we talk about it a lot,” Painchaud said.
