First day of 2018-19 school year full of excitement, traditions

The first day of school is a busy, fun-filled and opportunistic time for all students.
“It was pretty neat and I loved how smooth it worked out,” sophomore Ashton Duft said.
Derby High School’s first day opened many new opportunities. With new opportunities brings a fresh start and new memories.
“It was crazy. It was for sure hectic with all the new freshman coming in,” sophomore Jenna Anderson said.
With freshman, sophomores, juniors and seniors all joining back together once again, the day progressed and ended with a drumbeat.
“I love the tradition of watching the freshman walking in, with everyone clapping,” sophomore Sidney Gore said.
As tradition goes, the drumline played while with sophomores, juniors and seniors clapped for the freshman as they walked across the gym in front of their peers during the assembly.
“It’s an exciting new fresh start,” Gore said.
Hopes and dreams for the school year ahead of are high and hold many new possibilities for the future.
“I have to say overall today was pretty good. It seemed to be more kids than normal overall, but I think it went pretty smoothly,” senior Drake Goseland said.
