Tonya Johnston, who works in the attendance office, is ecstatic to have her son, Jaelen Johnston, be on The Voice.

Jaelen Johnston is a Derby alum and is pursuing a career as a country artist.

“It means the world to me because he is doing what he loves,” Tonya Johnston said. “It takes a lot to get up in front of people and sing.”

She was so excited for her son’s appearance on the show that she came to school dressed in her custom Jaelen Johnston T-shirt. She also has a sticker of him pinned to her desk.

“I fully support him because he enjoys it and I am excited to see him make a career out of what he loves,” she said.
