It all started with a passion for the art and creativity of anime.
Sophomore Freyjalynn Hillman had the idea to create a club where students who shared their interest in anime could come together.
Hilliam proposed the idea to freshman Andy Beugelsdyk, and he took a liking to it.
“Honestly, (Hillman) thought of the idea, and I really liked it. And if I helped with the anime club, then (I would) see how stuff goes,” Beugelsdyk said.
Together, Hilliam and Beugelsdyk presented their ideas to math teacher Ivett Michel Beugelsdyk to sponsor Anime Club.
She fully supported the idea and did everything she could do to help.
“This is for the students to be able to share the books they are reading and then maybe show one or two movies,” Ivett said.
The club meets every Wednesday after school from 3:15 to 4 p.m. in E8.
“I have done two presentations,” he said. “I think we’re going to start watching movies soon.”
Ivett hopes to see more students develop meaningful connections with other students who share the same interests.
“There’s a lot of kids that read, color and draw, and I want to help those kids so they can relate,” Ivett said.
Andy agreed.
“If you’re interested in anime, you can surely join. It is like a social club; you can join in,” he said. “You know, interact with people and share ideas about anime and manga and other discussions.”
