The Derby band put on a Pasta Dinner Fundraiser before the Jazz Band concert on April 14, 2025, to raise money for the upcoming marching band season.
It was planned, organized, and run by the band boosters, or the parents and band supporters who meet once a month to help serve the Derby band.
The pasta dinner included pasta, salad, bread, and a drink for $5 per plate. It was at 5pm and led into performances from Derby Middle School, Derby North Middle School, Derby High School, and the Delano Jazz Orchestra.
“All of us performing together was pretty cool. It’s probably my favorite concert that we’ve had this year,” freshman trumpet player Rimi Pickels said.
Along with the students and orchestra performing, guest clinician Dennis DiBlasio made an appearance, soloing with the bands on the baritone saxophone and piano.
“Having someone so experienced play with us was something that I feel like really helped my performance as well,” Pickles said.
The Derby Jazz band has a reputation for wonderful performances throughout the year, and it’s apparent by the way that the band boosters and supporters work to care for members of the band that they will continue to keep up this reputation.
