Work Based Learning is a great opportunity to get experience in what you want to do.
Senior Lauren Snead took this opportunity to explore her future career choice.
“I work at the Derby Water Treatment Plant,” Snead said. “I chose to work there because I want to be an environmental engineer and this job exposes me to what a real career in that field would look like.”
At the treatment plant, Snead does different tests on the water.
“I do quality checks for the lab and operational testing for the plant to make sure it’s running the way it should,” Snead said.
You need to reach certain requirements in order to join the Work-Based Learning program. You have to be 17, maintain a 2.0 GPA, have completed two Career and Technical Education courses and complete 60 hours of WBL per semester to receive credit
“I heard about this internship from a meeting about Work-Based Learning my junior year,” Snead said. “I would absolutely recommend this to upcoming seniors! It’s a great way to get hands-on experience, apply the things you learn in the classroom and figure out if the career you’re considering is a good fit for you.”
